STATE Texas PROJECT Fugufinl, Job Bnl PERIOD July 1, 1953 to June 30, 1955 Segment Completion Report by Alvin Flury TITLE Inventory of the Fish Species in the Nueces, Eric and Atascosa Rivers. OBJECTIVES To determine the species present and their relative numbers in the waters entering Lake Corpus Christie PROCEDURE Seventeen seining collections were made on the Atascosa River on July 22 and 27, 1953 at the same stations used in JOb Aml for taking water samples. Specimens collected were preserved in formalin and tabulated at the laboratoryo Stream Survey Forms were filled out at each station to describe the ecological sitm nation. Netting of the lower area of the River will be done when the Nueces and Eric Rivers are surveyedo Low water conditions in the fall and Lack of waders dur— ing the winter prevented further work on the Nueces and Eric Rivers. OBSERVATIONS A total of 5,7h0 specimens was taken, representing eighteen specieso Mollienesia latipinna and Gambusia affinis were very abundant followed in order by Notropis lutrensis, Lepomis macrochirus, Lepomis megalotis, Pimephales vigilax and Cichlasoma cyanoguttata. The other eleven species comprised less than 5% of the collections. The attached list shows how many specimens of each kind were taken at each station and the percentage of each species in the total catch.
