Project No. Fw2-15 Name: Region 2~B Fisheries Studies
Job No. 3—24 Title: Fisheries Resurvey of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson
Period Covered: February 12 1967 to January 31: 1968
Objectives:
To analyze and evaluate for possible publication (other than a Job Progress
Report) data collected under Job 3-24, F-2-12, F—2-13 and F-2-14.
Procedures:
Published literature was screened regarding the effect of commercial fishing on
fishery complexes in freshwater lakes. Data obtained during 3 segments of work were
reviewed and evaluated for publication as an Inland Fisheries Bulletin.
Findings:
Although data indicated that a population change (a shift in smallmouth buffalo"
river carpsucker ratio) occurred during the commercial netting of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson,
it was felt by project personnel that additional data should be collected over a 3-year
post-commercial netting period. This control period colleCtion of data would determine
whether the population changes were permanent or if the fish populations returned to
the pre-netting state. This information was felt to be necessary for an accurate
analysis of the effects of commercial netting. The job was amended to postpone publi-
cation of this study until all of the data had been collected.
