JOB PROGRESS REPORT
State of Texas Name: Region 2-B Fisheries Studies
Project No, F-2-R-19 Title: Productivity Study of the
Fishery of the Guadalupe River
Job No, E-8
Period Covered: February 1, 1971 to January 31, 1972
OBJECTIVES:
P. S. Objective: To determine production in a Central Texas River.
Segment Objectives:
l. To relocate the study area to a more suitable site.
2. To determine the most efficient population estimate method through
electro fishing techniques.
Procedures:
Little time was devoted to this job during this segment because the chemical
renovation of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson required most of Project F-2-R's time and
man power. However, three man days were spent reviewing Federal Aid documents,
job progress reports and other literature pertinent to this job.
Findings and Discussion:
From the review of documents and literature it became apparent that attainment
of the objective of this job would depend on one important procedure; the use of
weirs to block fish movement into the study areas. Without some means to prohibit
recruitment into the study areas, a population estimate as called for in procedure
1 of the original Job Description would be difficult to make and cropping the
existing fish population, as outlined in procedure 2, would be impossible.
Conclusions and Recommendations:
Construction of the weirs for this study has been determined economically
infeasible. Therefore, the objective of this job can not be attained.
It is recommended that this job be deleted and a final report on completed
segment objectives be prepared and submitted.
