Job Completion Report
State of TEXAS
Project No. F-5-R-6 Name: Fisheries Investigations and Surveys
of the Waters of Region 3-B.
Job No. E-1 Title: Experimental Stocking of Channel Bass,
Scaenops ocellatus, in Red Bluff Res-
ervoir and in the Pecos River of Texas.
Period Covered: April 16, 1958 - April 15, 1959.
Abstract:
No fish were obtainable for this job during the year.
Objectives:
To determine if the above game species may be successfully introduced into these
inland waters and to obtain data pretaining to their ecological requirements.
Findings:
Unusual tide conditions on the coast prevented the marine staff of the Texas Game
and Fish Commission from obtaining a sufficient number of these fish for experimental
introduction. Since young fish were desired, the cost of capturing an adequate quantity
became prohibitive when unusually fresh waters in the bays resulted in the juvenile fish
dispersing before they reached locations where they could be effectively seined.
Recommendation:
It is recommended that the job be continued until the objectives stated above
have been accomplished.
