Project No. F-6-R-8 Name: Fisheries Investigations and Surveys
of the Waters of Region 8-8.
Job No. B-18 Title: Basic Survey and Fish Inventory of the
; San Antonio River in Region -B.
Period Covered: January 1, 1960 - December 31, 1960
OBJECTIVES
To determine the physical, chemical and ecological conditions and the relative
numbers of fish species present in the lower portions of the San Antonio River, lying
within Wilson, Karnes, Goliad and Refugio Counties.
PROCEDURE
One and a half days were spent by the Project Leader and two field assistants
inspecting several highway crossings of the San Antonio River in the vicinity of
Goliad. Only one crossing was found where a boat could possibly be gotten down the
bank.
The Project Leader was ill, recovering from surgery, during most of the first
half of the segment and almost continuous rains and floods during the second half
prevented any further work.
RESULTS
One possible boat landing was found near Goliad. Dry weather over the watershed
will be needed to do any field work.
RECOMMENDATIONS
This job should be continued through the next segment of the project.
