--- Page 1 --- STATE Texas PROJECT F-6-R-1, Job Bel PERIOD July 1, 1953 to June 30, 1954 Segment Completion Report by Alvin Flury TITLE Inventory of the Fish Species in the Nueces, Frio and Atascosa Rivers. OBJECTIVES To determine the species present and their relative numbers in the waters entering Lake Corpus Christi. PROCEDURE Seventeen seining collections were made on the Atascosa River on July 22 and 27, 1953 at the same stations used in Job A~l for taking water samples. Specimens collected were preserved in formalin and tabulated at the laboratory. Stream Survey Forms were filled out at each station to describe the ecological sit- uation. Netting of the lower area of the River will be done when the Nueces and Frio Rivers are surveyed. Low water conditions in the fall and lack of waders dur— ing the winter prevented further work on the Nueces and Frio Rivers. OBSERVATIONS A total of 5,740 specimens was taken, representing eighteen species. Mollienesia latipinna and Gambusia affinis were very abundant followed in order by Notropis lutrensis, Lepomis macrochirus, Lepomis megalotis, Pimephales vigilax and Cichlasoma cyanoguttata. The other eleven species comprised less than LF, of the collections. The attached list shows how many specimens of each kind were taken at each station and the percentage of each species in the total catch. SUMMARY Seining collections were made on seventeen stations on the Atascosa River, a total of 5,740 specimens being taken. Specimens were preserved and tabulated. --- Page 2 --- vU VUL OTLS TT QS ) O €S% SQE O86 gg9 TIT O90T 69gt LIt LE 19 «162 «Tel 9eT sotoeds QT TQ°T HOT eqyeqgqnsouefd BloseTyotgO ¢ 9 LZ qd 02 tf T Tt T rar 9 L 9° 02 é H tT c sucT[eueko stmodet cO° T T STre—nuue stxomog ee . ame 99°T LOT OT T 4 TT 9S T 9 +T 4 STqoTesem stmodeT 5 eee 69°€ te 6 tL 2g G eS snuityoorioem stmodaty T 8 PA qT er 6g°Ly 6ELz2 eT ¢ LTE GoS HOS € Ley ok £9 HSe 9ST Olt euuTdT eT el seueTT Tom €T° g q 2 T + seTem snanteuy NUT 99 orwa wena SSSCSSSC*CSRT Tg SB “Tet HOT USTE usta T OT T Le St oT tet g XeTTSTA sateydemtg "$6 ghS oT TL ON con QIT €€ OT TT ot 6 99 99 SS sTsuatyny stdo2z0N eb Sh oe 7 oe “$ 2 9 T€ { SBTTTM Enposodosdy EB ce° .
