JOB COMPLETION REPORT
State of Texas __
Project No. _F-6-R-12 Name: Fisheries Investigations and _
Surveys of the Waters of Region
5-B
Job No. _ C-l Title: Pollution Studies
Period Covered: January 1, 1964 through December 31, 1964
Objectives:
To determine the source and nature of natural or man-made pollutants which
affect the fish populations in public waters of Region 5-B.
Procedure:
During the progress of other jobs of the project, polluted waters were
watched for and investigated when found. Cases of water pollution reported
by sportsmen and game wardens were investigated.
Findings:
Lake Corpus Christi
On October 1, a fish kill due to the depletion of dissolved oxygen was
investigated in the upper reaches of Lake Corpus Christi, near Dinero Bridge.
In addition to a large number of smallmouth buffalo which lined a portion of
a slough, many channel and blue catfish, less than a pound in size, were found.
The kill was not considered to be detrimental to the overall fish pop-
ulation.
Recommendations:
This job should be continued so that future pollution cases may be investi-
gated and corrective action taken to abate it.
