ID Comments: 10 anal rays on 3 specimens and 9 on 1 specimen. Potentially could be N. atherinoides, but smaller eye and larger mouth suggest N. jemezanus.

suspect flag — specimen examined and I agree with ID of N. jemezanus (but very much like N. atherinoides as well). However, there must be a locality labeling mistake. Original field notes say this was collected in a shrimp trawl in salt water in Aransas Bay, 1.5 miles off shore. I am very suspect of occurence of this species here and dubious of catching such small specimens with this method. Also the determination is by Platania who I know only collected on the Rio Grande, where this species is native.
