Remarks: This is most likely not 'Attar'. but 'Otter Creek' as described in the accounts of Marcy's expedition mapping the Red River (Exploration of the Red River of Louisiana in the year 1852, https://www.raremaps.com/gallery/detail/37412/map-of-the-country-upon-upper-red-river-explored-in-1852-by-marcy and https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/95580#page/238/mode/1up). See Appendix F (page 219), which lists fish collected including 'LEUCISCUS VIGILAX'...'One specimen (immature) caught in Otter Creek, Arkansas'. But, probably not in Arkansas (that part of the report was written by Baird and Girard (mistakenly?)). But, page 14 (and further), by Marcy, describes the location of Otter Creek, providing rough coordinates (that I believe are fairly incorrect, placing the creek in Texas, just west of the border with OK) and they clearly thought they were barely in Texas from their mapping of Otter Creek. Looking at their expedition map and matching it to modern images shown on Google Maps and matching creek names (Elk Creek, Sweetwater Creek, Otter Creek) it is clear that they were in the creek that matches the modern-day 'otter creek'. Georeferenced the portion of the creek near their camps as per the expedition map. Report (p224) indicates collections of mussels on from Otter Creek on May 22 and July 13 and I assume that this was when they also collected fish. Other fishes are reported as being collected here and they are listed in the USNM catalog as being from Arkansas. Those should be corrected and added to the Fishes of Texas Project.
