Characters
Heart-shaped tail is about 50% to 52% of TL and lacks disc; greatly elongated snout bearing a leaf-shaped lateral expansion; very slender tail that lacks dorsal fins; preorbital length is about 21% to 22% of TL; snout is abruptly expanded at about distal one-third of length; margin of expansion is strongly convex; distal extreme of snout is filamentous; mouth is slightly arched; upper jaw has 22 to 26 tooth rows; pectoral radials extend to about mid-length of snout; anterior lobe of pelvic fin is limblike and externally separated from posterior lobe; posterior lobe of pelvic fin is laterally connected to medial margin of pectoral fin; caudal fin has relatively well-developed dorsal and ventral lobes, which are separated distally by tip of vertebral column; body is completely devoid of dermal denticles and thorns.
