Characters
Body depth is 15% to 18% and head length is 23% to 28% of SL. Snout length is about three-fourths eye length. Maxilla has pointed tip and is long, extending posterior to supramaxilla and reaching posterior margin of preoperculum. Jaw teeth are small. Suborbital bone (below eye) is slightly longer than eye diameter. Pseudobranch (on inner surface of gill cover) is shorter than eye diameter and does not extend onto operculum. Gill rakers on lower limb of first arch are slender and number 24 to 30. Upper lobe of third gill arch has gill rakers. Pectoral fin falls short of pelvic fin base by distance equal to eye diameter. Dorsal fin originates posterior to mid-distance between tip of snout and base of caudal fin, and has 14 to 16 rays. Pelvic fin is slightly closer to origin of anal fin than to pectoral fin base. Anal fin originates below midlength of dorsal fin base and has 19 to 24 rays. Anus is closer to pelvic fin tip than to anal fin origin. Scales are deciduous and in 42 to 45 transverse rows. Vertebrae number 44 to 45.
Color is translucent with silvery stripe along flank. Stripe is about as broad as pupil diameter.
