Eastern Central Pacific: Gulf of California to Guatemala. Introduced with success into the Salton Sea in southern California, USA (Ref. 1739).
Habitat Associations
Brackish, marine. demersal. Found in: streams, estuaries.
Biology
Inhabits coastal waters, estuaries and river mouths (Ref. 9118). Introduced into the Salton Sea, a warm, relatively shallow, and highly saline lake (Ref. 5723). Feeds on fishes, small shrimps and other crustaceans (Ref. 9118).
Max length: 30.0 cm TL; common length: 20.0 cm TL.
Reproductive mode: dioecism; fertilization: external; nonguarders (open water/substratum egg scatterers); parental care: none.
