Elongate, compressed, and tapering posteriorly; snout acute and shorter than eye diameter; upper jaw extends slightly beyond anterior margin of orbit; jaw teeth conical, slightly recurved, and arranged in a single row; vomerine and palatine teeth similar shape and arranged in single rows; gill rakers on first arch long and slender, 3 on upper limb and 16 on lower limb; head length 29%–32% SL, snout length 8%–9% SL, eye diameter 11%–12% SL, snout to dorsal fin origin 51%–56% SL, snout to anal fin origin 43%–48% SL, body depth 23%–28% SL; pectoral fin has 29 or 30 rays; dorsal fin has 9 or 10 rays; anal fin has a single spine and 36 to 39 rays; lateral line has about 38 scales
