Characters
Moderately elongate, with attenuate tail and delicate, rather transparent and loosely attached skin. Jaws equal; fleshy part of snout does not project beyond lower jaw. Upper and lower lips lack flanges. Anterior nostril tubular and near tip of snout. Posterior nostril small and in front of midheight of eye. Snout 24% to 31%, eye 10% to 17%, and mouth length 36% to 45% of head length. Head length 23% to 38%, predorsal length 34% to 41%, and preanal length 36% of TL. Jaw teeth strong, fanglike, and in narrow bands, with outer teeth longest. Intermaxillary teeth enlarged, in two transverse rows, and separated from maxillary and vomerine teeth. Vomerine teeth consist of greatly enlarged central tooth, flanked and followed by three smaller teeth. Head pores enlarged, with five infraorbital, three supraorbital, and one supratemporal. Branchiostegal rays number 7 or 8, pectoral fin rays number 13 to 16, and lateral line pores to anus number 40 to 47. Total vertebrae number 179 to 206, predorsal vertebrae number 10 to 14, preanal vertebrae number 47 to 55, and precaudal vertebrae number 58 to 60.
