Elliptical in profile, preoperculum strongly serrated, dorsal profile of head slightly convex, nares moderately separated, posterior margin of anterior naris expanded into a flap, posterior naris small and oval, jaw teeth villiform in bands narrowing to a single row posteriorly with some enlarged and sharp pointed at symphysis, gill rakers on first arch 6-8 upper limb and 14-16 lower limb, head length 30%-33% SL, snout length 9%-10% SL, eye diameter 6%-8% SL, upper jaw length 11%-12% SL, body depth 31%-33% SL, pectoral fin 16 rays, dorsal fin deeply incised with 12 spines and 12 or 13 rays, anal fin 7 rays, caudal fin emarginate, scales on membranes between dorsal and anal fin rays, lateral line scales 50-53

Maximum known size is 300 mm TL
Found along sandy shores and over shallow muddy bottoms (Ref. 3798). Adults feed at night on crustaceans and small fishes (Ref. 3798). Marketed fresh (Ref. 3798).
