Distribution

Nova Scotia to Florida and the Gulf of Mexico in the western Atlantic

Habitat Associations

Subtropical to temperate waters of the North Atlantic; daytime depths range from 400 to 750 m, and nighttime depths range from 40 to 200 m for smaller specimens, and from 300 to 600 m for larger specimens

Biology

Maximum known size is 90 mm SL
Maturity is reached at about 65 mm SL
High-oceanic, found between 325-750 m during daytime (Ref. 4479). At night, a two layer system occurs, with adults found at 300-600 m and juveniles at 40-200 m (Ref. 4479).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC), assessed 2009-02-04. Resilience: High (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
