Western Central Atlantic: apparently restricted to the Gulf of Mexico, including eastern Florida (Ref. 114953).
Habitat Associations
Marine. bathydemersal. depth range 475-1080 m.
Biology
Found on upper and mid-continental slope (Ref. 114953). Oviparous (Ref. 50449). Eggs have horn-like projections on the shell (Ref. 205). Biology little known. Males reaches maturity by ca. 107cm TL (Ref. 114953).
Max length: 144.0 cm TL.
Reproductive mode: dioecism; fertilization: internal (oviduct); nonguarders (open water/substratum egg scatterers); parental care: none. Oviparous, paired eggs are laid. Embryos feed solely on yolk (Ref. 50449). Eggs have horn-like projections on the shell (Ref. 205).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC), assessed 2019-06-23. Resilience: Low (Fec assumed to be <100).
