Characters

Nasal barbels and single barbel lateral to mouth are relatively long. Total tooth cusps on lingual plate range from 46 to 52, with 11 to 14 in outer row and 11 to 13 in inner row. Three anterior teeth of outer row and three anterior teeth of inner row are fused at bases. Gill apertures range from five (rare) to six. Total slime pores range from 74 to 82, with pre-branchial pores numbering 15 to 18, branchial pores numbering 4 to 6, trunk pores numbering 41 to 48, and tail pores numbering 11 to 14. Ventral fin is poorly developed, originates posterior to last gill aperture, and extends to cloaca.
