Western Central Atlantic: Bermuda and Chesapeake Bay (USA) to Sao Paulo, Brazil, including the Bahamas, Barbados, and throughout the Gulf of Mexico.
Habitat Associations
Brackish, marine. demersal. Found in: estuaries, mangroves, seagrass beds.
Biology
Primarily in estuarine waters, in seagrass beds, open sand and mud bottoms, and in mangrove forests (Ref. 51706). Penetrates freshwater tributaries (Ref. 51706). Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates (Ref. 51706).
Max length: 16.2 cm TL; max weight: 61 g.
