Characters

Elongate and very slender, with a long, tapering, protrusible snout; abdominal pelvic fins. Body depth 6.4% to 8.2% and head length 12.2% to 13.6% of SL. Lower jaw about as long as upper jaw and not upturned at tip. Premaxilla with 10 to 13 teeth. Lower jaw with 12 to 15 teeth. Chin barbel 40% to 78% of SL with slender stem and single, elongate terminal bulb 1.1% to 2.3% of SL bearing simple, digitate terminal projection. Deep ventral groove on belly absent. Pectoral fin with 3 rays. Dorsal fin with 23 to 26 rays, and anal fin with 35 to 39 rays. Pelvic fin with 7 rays. IP number 7, PV number 32 to 35, and VAV number 16 to 20. OV number 32 to 35, VAL number 17 to 19, and AC number 16 to 20. Preorbital and suborbital luminous organs absent. Po about 1% of SL. Vertebrae number 66 to 68.
Color is black. Barbel stem has little external pigment.
