Distribution
Asia: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and South Western China. Reported as introduced to China (Ref. 55380).
Habitat Associations
Freshwater, brackish. demersal. depth range 10-10 m. Found in: streams, lakes.
Biology
Adults occur in rivers and ponds (Ref. 4832); in slow-moving waters of rivers and feed on plants (Ref. 9687), filamentous algae and diatoms (Ref. 44151). Fecundity of 2 specimens (38.8-40.5 cm) ranged between 193,000 and 238,000 (Ref. 1479).
Max length: 90.0 cm TL.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC), assessed 2010-03-21. Resilience: Low (K=0.14-0.15).
