Jaws extend more than eye diameter beyond posterior margin of orbit, and maxilla is slightly expanded posteriorly. Posterior margin of operculum tapers to acute angle above pectoral fin base. Gill rakers number 19 to 23. Dorsal fin originates slightly anterior to pelvic fin base and has 21 to 23 rays. Pectoral fin reaches pelvic fin base and has 12 or 13 rays. Anal fin originates slightly posterior to dorsal fin base and has 18 to 20 rays. Dn consists of small dorsal section and large ventral section. Vn is small. PVO2 is above PVO1 and pectoral fin base. PLO is 1 to 2 times its diameter below lateral line. Five PO are present, with PO2, PO3, and PO4 separated from PO1 and PO5, and PO5 is elevated. VLO is midway between lateral line and pelvic fin base or higher. Five VO are present, with VO5 often elevated. SAO form slight angle, with SAO3 above SAO2 and in contact with lateral line. Pol number two or three and are located close together just below lateral line. AOa number seven to nine and form wavy line. AOp number four to seven and all are behind anal fin base. Three Prc are present, with Prc1 and Prc2 close together and just above ventral contour, and Prc3 1.5 to 2 times its diameter below level of lateral line.
