Characters

Body shape: elongated. Phenacobius crassilabrum is distinguished by having the following characters: lips as in sucker-mouth minnow, P. mirabilis; pelvic fins extending to or past anus; 56-68 scales on lateral line; 19-20 scales around caudal peduncle; dark olive above; dark stripe along back wider in front of dorsal fin; light green streak above black stripe along silver side; and 2 yellow spots on caudal fin base (Ref. 86798).

Distribution

North America: upper Tennessee River drainage from South Fork Holston River in Virginia to Little Tennessee River in Georgia; extreme upper Savannah River drainage in North Carolina, South Caroline and Georgia, USA.

Habitat Associations

Freshwater. demersal. Found in: streams.

Biology

Inhabits gravel and rubble runs and riffles of creeks and small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723, 10294, 86798).
Max length: 11.2 cm TL; common length: 7.5 cm TL.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC), assessed 2012-08-03. Resilience: High (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
