Moderately elongate and slightly compressed body; short chin barbel; 2 dorsal fins; snout obtusely rounded; mouth moderately oblique and terminal; upper jaw extending beyond anterior margin of orbits; teeth in jaws in narrow bands with outer teeth slightly larger; vomer lacks teeth; gill rakers moderately long and slender, 2 or 3 on epibranch and 8 to 11 on lower limb of first arch; head 25.3% to 28%, predorsal length 27.9% to 29.6%, preanal length 33.7% to 34.4%, body depth 20.1% to 20.7% of SL; snout length 27% to 30.7%, upper jaw length 44.5% to 60%, caudal peduncle depth 9.1% to 10.1% of head length; pectoral fin with 21 to 26 rays; first dorsal fin short based with 9 to 12 rays; second dorsal fin originates immediately behind first with 57 to 61 rays; pelvic fin slightly anterior to pectoral fin base with outer 2 rays filamentous and extending beyond anal fin origin; anal fin not indented with 59 to 68 rays; caudal fin rounded; scales small, 70 to 84 along lateral line and 6 or 7 between dorsal fin base and lateral line; light organ moderately large and located midway between line connecting anterior pelvic fin rays and anus; vertebrae number 47 to 50
