Characters
Moderately elongate, with anus located at one-quarter to one-third of length and with an acutely pointed tail. Snout projects beyond lower jaw and has longitudinal fleshy keel under tip of snout. Upper lip has broad flange, and lower lip has narrow flange. Anterior nostril is tubular and is located near anteroventral corner of snout. Posterior nostril is elliptical and is located anterior to midheight of eye. Snout is 20% to 27%, eye is 11% to 18%, and mouth length is 33% to 38% of head length. Head length is 40% to 48%, predorsal length is 38% to 49%, and preanal length is 25% to 32% of preanal length. Jaw teeth are small, conical, and in narrow band. Intermaxillary tooth patch is broader than it is long, exposed when mouth is closed, and slightly separated from maxillary and vomerine teeth. Vomerine tooth patch is longer than it is broad. Head pores are small, with those of upper jaw located on flange, and number five infrarorbital, three supraorbital, and one supratemporal. Branchiostegal rays number 7 or 8, pectoral fin rays number 11 to 13, and lateral line pores to anus number 24 to 33. Total vertebrae number 171 to 178, predorsal vertebrae number 6 to 8, and preanal vertebrae number 30 to 37.
Color is brown to grayish brown, with vertical fins black edged posteriorly, stomach black, and intestine pale.
