Characters

Moderately elongate, moderately slender, and posteriorly compressed, with a moderately long, acute snout, upper pectoral fin rays filamentous, and body covered with scales. Snout length is slightly longer than eye and is 10% to 12% of SL. Head length is 32% to 37% of SL. Maxilla extends to posterior margin of eye. Two supramaxillae are present on dorsal margin of maxilla. Premaxilla, maxilla, dentaries, and palatine bear single row of teeth. Vomer has well-developed teeth. First gill arch has 8 gill rakers on epibranch, 1 in corner, and 17 on lower limb. Branchiostegal rays number 7 or 8. Pectoral fin has 11 to 13 rays, with upper rays filamentous and thickened. Origin of dorsal fin is over origin of anal fin, and fin bases are about equal length. Dorsal fin has 21 to 24 rays, and anal fin has 20 to 24 rays. Pelvic fin has 7 rays. Body, excluding head, is covered with scales. Lateral line scales number 52 to 55. Trunk vertebrae number 17 to 19, and caudal vertebrae number 29 to 32. Pyloric caecae number 10 or 11.
Color is blackish with black wartlike spot on base of sixth dorsal fin ray.
